- Cuts from New York, Chicago and Detroit feature on the double-LP compilation for Rush Hour.
Rush Hour Music has called on Rick Wilhite to oversee a second Vibes New & Rare Music compilation.
Vibes gets its title from Wilhite's now-closed Detroit record shop, which was once a go-to spot for deep and soulful dance music. Four years on from the first edition, Wilhite has returned with 15 selections by artists from Detroit, Chicago and New York.
"The compilation itself represents Vibes and the people that represented the store," Wilhite told Rush Hour. "Each cut has the representation of who the artist is and what he really likes to put out."
There are plenty of big names—Moodymann, Jovonn, K-Alexi, Orlando Voorn, DJ Stingray, Josh Milan of Blaze and Detroit techno group Los Hermanos all feature—alongside lesser-known artists like Jon Easly. Wilhite himself teams up with Norm Talley on "30 Years Later," chips in with a remix of Sean Tate's "A Matter Of Honor" and appears as one half of Rick & Calvin with Calvin Morgan.
The compilation will be released on CD and as two separate vinyl double-LPs. You can listen to soundclips over at the Rush Hour website. (Part 1 is here and Part 2 is here).
