- On his upcoming full-length, the Raster-Noton co-founder continues to experiment with sound and vision.
Berlin-based experimental artist Frank Bretschneider will release his next full-length, EXP 2CD, this summer.
As anyone whose seen their live acts can attest, Raster-Noton artists place special emphasis on audio-visual synthesis, and EXP is no exception. Consisting of a data disc as well as an audio CD, Bretschneider's new work aims to "assimilate the qualities found in music -- including rhythm, tempo, mood, intensity and compositional structure -- within visual phenomena." Though that may sound a bit academic, Bretschneider has shown a unique flair for translating lofty ideas into accessible music, especially on Rhythm, his surprisingly head-bobbing album from 2007. In addition to Raster-Noton, Bretschneider has released on labels like Korm Plastics and 12K, and contributed tracks to Mille Plateaux's celebrated Clicks and Cuts compilations.
