- The Detroit producer's first full-length is currently available on Unirhythm.
Marcellus Pittman has released his first full-length, Pieces, on his own label, Unirhythm.
Though he keeps a lower profile than some of his contemporaries, Pittman has plenty of impressive credentials—aside from being a distinctive DJ and producer in his own right, he was part of the 3 Chairs production crew with fellow Detroit natives Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Kenny Dixon Jr. (AKA Moodymann), and also played in Parrish's Rotating Assembly collective. Stylistically, he's cut from the same cloth as as those artists, Parrish most of all, with a sound that's at once left-field, lo-fi and classically informed. Pieces is available on CD, and mostly brings together selections from Pittman's EPs over the last few years, many of which were until now released only on vinyl.
