- The LA-based producer will release his latest album in October.
Kid606 will release Happiness on October 29th.
American-raised Venezuelan Miguel Manuel de Pedro is a veteran producer with an ear for the weird, with what RA's Holly Dicker described as "a predominantly noisy oeuvre and penchant for ridiculous titles" in a review last year. His sample-heavy sound has often has a dark edge, but as its title implies, Happiness sees Kid606 exploring more light-hearted territory.
The record is said to be inspired by changes in the producer's life that include a move to LA from Berlin, "being newly single, beaches, road trips, hiking, sunsets and cuddling," with a peppy mood that recalls his own happy childhood memories. As usual with de Pedro's music, you'd be able to point out all sorts of references in the music from hip-hop to vintage Rephlex, but this one also carries a rather unusual torch, with soft rock icons Christopher Cross and Toto among its chief inspirations. Happiness will come through Kid606's own Tigerbeat6 label, which he's been running for more than a decade now.
