- The NYC artist, formerly of Italians Do It Better, will release the debut full-length from his new project Pale Blue in April.
New York producer and DJ Mike Simonetti's new group Pale Blue will release its debut LP, The Past We Leave Behind on April 13th via 2MR, his new collaborative label with Mike Sniper of Captured Tracks.
With the new imprint, Simonetti officially severs ties with Italians Do It Better, the popular indie dance imprint he founded with Johnny Jewel. 2MR is the latest chapter in a musical career that began in the early '90s. Simonetti started up as a club DJ in New York and would go on to operate Troubleman Unlimited, an influential outré rock and art punk label, from 1993-2003. The Italians project followed, taking on a life of its own via the After Dark compilations and use of the Chromatics and Glass Candy music in the Nicolas Winding Refn epic Drive.
He's working with an old friend, Mike Sniper (of Blank Dogs and the prolific Captured Tracks imprint), on 2MR. Pale Blue features vocals from Silver Hands member Elizabeth Wight as well as Jana Hunter, known for her solo music and band Lower Dens. The project, which draws its name from Carl Sagan's description of the earth from space, is said to span, "...a myriad of sonic elements, ranging from rhythmic, melodic techno to ambient, while also incorporating Simonetti's varied background in noise, drone, and even experimental dream pop."
