From Vancouver to Montreal (and Toronto), here's some New Year's highlights for your festivities.
All three of Canada's big cities have a lot to offer this year for New Year's. Montreal's got the big names, while Toronto and Vancouver's highlights focus mainly on the locals—which is more a testament to strong communities and growing scenes than anything else. Here are a few select coast-to-coast highlights.
Montreal's got the big-ticket artists and some rather massive nights. Thugfucker will co-headline a star-studded bash alongside Chaim and Hunter/Game at Stereo, while Omisoka's secretly-located blowout will feature Jon Hopkins and Com Truise. And for the heads, Paul Trafford's Cycle party will bring in Steve Bicknell from the UK along with a killer-looking chillout room that includes experimental music of all stripes. Over in Vancouver, a number of local crews will be making their mark. Mood Hut's Aquarian Foundation will DJ alongside 1080p boss Richard MacFarlane at World Present's two-room bash at a secret location, while Nordic Trax will take over Open Studios with staples Luke McKeehan and Jay Tripwire. Techno heads Subversive will team up with Personal Space for an event at Studio East, and that one features Nancy Dru, Myte and Derek Dee. Check out full Vancouver listings here.
Toronto, too, has a number of solid-looking fam jams. Union—the four-headed DJ collective comprising Carlo Lio, Nathan Barato and The Junkies—will be over at Coda. Techno lovers Interface will set up shop at 99 Sudbury, while Toronto house titans My Favorite Robot and Nitin will be spinning at Remix Lounge for a RAW party.
