- Mike Dunn, ESP, Joe Smooth and Frankie Knuckles feature on the triple 12-inch set, out this month.
DJ International will release The Sound Of DJ International/Underground on September 18th, 2015.
The label, started by musician Rocky Jones in 1985, was originally based across the street from The Warehouse, the nightclub which brought Frankie Knuckles and arguably, house music itself, to prominence. At its peak, Jones' label specialized in an uplifting brand of the Chicago sound as epitomized by Joe Smooth's "Promised Land" and Sterling Void & Paris Brightledge's "It's Alright," both of which are present on the new collection.
Other evergreen tracks issued on D.J. International and the Underground sublabel and included on the forthcoming set include ESP's longing "It's U," Mike Dunn's (MDIII) "Personal Problem" and Chip E's "Time To Jack." Knuckles' 1987 track "Only The Strong Survive" closes out the collection.
