  • New York DJ and promoter Riobamba has shared details of the first two releases on her label, which are due out this fall. Ecuadorian producer Mala Fama is up first with a five-track EP called Anta (which translates to "machine" in Quichua). The tracks, recorded in collaboration with the indigenous community of Cotachi, Ecuador, layer abstract soundscapes with regional folk music and electronic rhythms. Each audio collage has a narrative element drawn from the community's folkloric traditions. Mala Fama describes them as "non-linear retellings" of "everyday people telling everyday stories." It comes out September 14th. Then in October, Riobamba will release an album from Kelman Duran, a resident at the roving Rail Up parties in Los Angeles. Details are still forthcoming about that LP, which mixes elements of reggaeton, dancehall and ambient synth music. Listen to Mala Fama's "Yana Huaita Yura Huaita."
