  • Behringer has previewed a new synth resembling Sequential's Prophet series. Behringer's Pro-16 was revealed on Facebook last week and is currently in the prototype stage. No product details have been released although the moniker "Pro-16" suggests it could have 16 voices. The Prophet-5 was originally designed by Dave Smith in 1978 and his companies—such as Sequential Circuits and Dave Smith Instruments (DSI)—have maintained the design ethos behind the groundbreaking synth to the present day. The latest iteration of Smith's company (branded as Sequential since 2018) released an official reissue of the Prophet-5 last year. In 2018, Behringer opened a lawsuit against DSI, DSI engineer Tony Karavidas and 20 anonymous forum users for disparaging Behringer products. Recent years have seen Behringer pivot heavily to releasing remakes of popular synths from across history at reduced prices. The company announced its own version of Moog's System modular rigs in July.
