  • Journalist and Resident Advisor contributor Annabel Ross says she was banned from reviewing the most recent edition of Detroit festival Movement at Carl Craig's request. In a blog post published on Thursday, June 16th, Ross explained how she was supposed to review Movement's recent edition for Mixmag until Craig allegedly intervened. (RA approached Mixmag, Movement and Craig for comment, but received no replies at the time of publication.) "Movement had told [my editor] I could no longer review the festival," wrote Ross. "Craig had given the festival an ultimatum—him or me. If I was allowed to review the festival, he wouldn't perform." According to Ross, she was banned from reviewing because of Craig's relationship with Detroit legend Derrick May, who Ross has extensively reported on. In November 2020, RA published a piece featuring six claims of sexual assault and harassment against May. This was followed in January 2021 by a second piece, detailing the alleged experiences of seven more people. Ross said Craig has remained consistently supportive of May, whom he has known "for nearly 40 years" and calls a "mentor." She tweeted this in September 2020, when rumours of the accusations against May were circulating online.
