  • Kelela has released her first new music in four years. Now available digitally via Warp Records, "Washed Away" was produced by Yo van Lenz, who's previously collaborated with Sarah Farina. The track, which features a music video shot in the Danakil Depression, a desert area in northern Ethiopia, is about self-worth and self-healing, according to Kelela. "I specifically want to speak to marginalised Black folk and highlight the work we do to find renewal in a world that's built to make us feel inadequate," she said. "This song is the soundtrack to the relief we find after going inward." While Kelela's previous records, including her debut album in 2017 and 2013's Cut 4 Me EP, centred on R&B and dance music, this new track takes a different approach. "I love a banger, but for the first point of contact out of my hiatus, it felt more honest to lead with an ambient heart-check," she added. Listen to "Washed Away."
