Berlin primes itself for two weeks of electronic and experimental music with the opening of Club Transmediale tonight.
Now in its ninth year, Club Transmediale is Berlin’s premier festival dedicated to electronic and experimental music. Daytime sees workshops, installations and conferences where you can learn skills such as circuit bending or converting your laptop into a theremin, while the nighttime program is dedicated to events and club nights, which kick off tonight with a special performance from octogenarian musique concrète pioneer Pierre Henry.
During the week, the night program is all about the experimental fare, including performances from turntablist Christian Marclay, minimalist Alva Noto and a special gig by Murcof and Klimek at Zeiss Großplanetarium (a real planetarium), while the weekends are dedicated to club music. Tonight features Jahcoozi, Ebony Bones and Detroit Grand Pubahs among others, Saturday the 26th is a disco (Surkin, Kavinksy, Shir Khan) vs. country (!) rave, while the festival closes out on February 2nd with Joakim, Mouse on Mars and more.
All very nice indeed, but most essential for RA readers will of course be RA's first ever party in Berlin happening on Friday Febrary 1st. Hosted in conjuction with Club Transmediale, star billing at Golden Groove vs. Silver Reverb will be electronic legends Larry Heard and Moritz Von Oswald, but there’s plenty more besides on the bill. Full details here. To put it bluntly, we're psyched.
