- Paul McCartney and Youth team up again for their third ambient album
as The Fireman.
Next month will see the release of The Fireman's third LP, Electronic Arguments. The project sees former Beatle Paul McCartney working again with ex-Killing Joke member and The Orb co-producer Martin Glover, producing one track together a day over the course of the last year. Talking about the ambient electronica record a few days ago, Paul said that Youth had encouraged him to improvise during recording, saying, "Having written so much over the years, when I'm improvising I think I can spot what works."
It's now been fifteen years since the duo first started working together, their first release being 1993's Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest album, which featured several different versions of the same basic track. Both that release, and 1998's more diverse follow up Rushes scooped critical acclaim but failed to dent the charts. However, as the new record is the first time that any of their tracks will feature a McCartney vocal, that run of form looks like it may change. However, McCartney has also been quoted as saying that "(this album) could ruin my whole career. This could be the most embarrassing moment of my life," he said. Do you not remember The Frog Chorus, Paul?
