- Claudio PRC's ashen productions are an ideal fit for Prologue, which continues to release rarefied exercises in dub techno while maintaining an unfiltered signature sound. Following his 2012 full-length Inner State, PRC's newest release, L Synthesis, shows he's absorbed the same crystalline shamanism perfected by fellow Italian Donato Dozzy—trance without the melodic cheese.
L Synthesis increases in urgency as it progresses from droning dub tool "Nur" through the flinty exhales of "Oes." The whole EP mixed together would make for an extended trip, even with the faint syncopation in "Kar" breaking up the 4/4 blur. PRC is relatively young at 26, but he's already adept at reshaping bleak moods just when they threaten to become monotonous. In "Nur," a drone accelerates and thickens in cavernous tails of reverb, but always deflates before it chokes off the movement of the other elements; "Kar" has shattered metallic corners that manage to never quite burst the bassline. It's impressive that a production with this much clarity still feels this foreboding, but the uncluttered composition includes nothing but the essential elements of unease.
