- Under his techno-focused Trevino name, drum & bass don Marcus Kaye (AKA Marcus Intalex) slowed his output after a prolific 2012 and 2013, but he reaffirms his reputation for unerring reliability on Klockworks 14. If Kaye's previous Klockworks outing, 2012's Klockworks 09, sat at the softer end of the label's output, then Klockworks 14 makes it look almost hard-edged by comparison.
"Eclipse" and "The Dismal Truth" do fairly similar things with slightly different tools. Both have a hefty spine of kicks (and the former a panting rush of hi-hats) that reminds you which label we're dealing with here. Instead of keeping things stark and functional, though, Kaye paints both backgrounds with ethereal, sweeping brushstrokes, adding dollops of texture to their skeletal frames. "After The Rain" goes further, slowing and softening its drums and ramping up the role of its glowing strings. It's one of the few Klockworks tracks ever to have its head turned directly away from the floor, and it closes an EP that moves with the easy confidence of a producer who has nothing to prove.
