- Given that Tale Of Us and Mind Against live in Berlin, share a taste for collaborating and make dramatic dance music of a similar strain, it's surprising how long they've taken to get in the studio together. The result, a one-track outing on Life And Death, is exactly what you'd expect: misty tech house built with the world's biggest dance floors in mind.
For all its predictability, "Astral" is a good record. Its composition is simple and well executed, and the richness of each element together forms a potent sense of atmosphere. Imposing kicks and a trim percussive line guide you towards a swirl of grand pads and stormy FX. Just over two minutes in, everything makes way for the track's centrepiece, a huge synth hook in the duos' echoey style. But unlike similar moments in their other songs, it doesn't claw to a dreary, overly melancholic aesthetic. This one is frisky and instantly catchy, confirming "Astral" as a surefire hit. From remixes of Radio Slave bangers to EPs on R&S, Tale Of Us have put their name to a lot in the past month. This, for me, is the best of the bunch.
