- The Huddersfield don serves up a modern 2-step gem.
- The day is finally here: DJ Q and Local Action have released a UK garage bubbler in the same league as "Brandy & Coke." The 2012 smash, widely considered a modern classic, was the first collaboration between artist and label; this EP is the tenth, and the first since 2016. The magic of "All That I Could" is the Colette Lush sample, silky yet robotic, cooing in fits and bursts over a timeless slab of drums and bass. Like so many 2-step bombs, the timbre of the vocal pings the heartstrings.
The B-side, "It's You," is more functional and less memorable. Tonally it's four-on-the-floor bassline—immense drums, driving bass, pitched-up vocals—without going full wobble, which, for me personally, is a blessing. The breathy hooks gel nicely with the beat, but they lack the soul and spice to be catchy. DJ Q has more music in the pipeline on Local Action. "All That I Could" is the one to beat.
