- Ambient techno bastion John Beltran brings in two younger disciples to make emotionally charged breaks.
- A year ago the only music I associated with Len Faki was utilitarian, hard-as-nails techno, but over the last 12 months the Berlin DJ and his Figure label have softened with a compilation of ambient, Open Space, and now an album from John Beltran. Using his Placid Angles alias, which resurfaced in 2019 after a 22-year hiatus, Beltran props up his signature, expansive chords with roaming breakbeats. "Beauty Begins With Us," the first track shared from Touch The Earth, has a UKG skip, breathy vocals and—compared to the early material—some of the sheen you'd find on a Bicep record, perhaps the result of collaborating with artists like Malibu and Baby Blue, who continue the lush tradition Beltran helped start decades ago.
