  • Before the Internet, remixes introduced fans of a particular genre or artist to completely new musical worlds. That doesn't happen as much anymore, so it's thrilling when it does. Alostmen, a quartet from northern Ghana whose sound hinges on a local two-stringed lute called a kologo, may have passed me by were it not for this spectacular remix of "Bayiti" by rRoxymore. The original's naked thrum of strings and song is reimagined for the dance floor—think Bristol over Berlin. The track unfurls in waves, fresh rhythms punctuating each phrase as melodic flourishes dance around snatches of voice and kologo. This is liminal music, and it bangs extremely hard.
