  • Marco Bailey on Berlin club Watergate's in-house label—probably not a combination that makes you think electro, right? Well, that's what you get on his new EP, though I reckon you could throw the "clash" in there, too. "From My Mind" is retro in more ways than one, paying homage to the genre's roots but also the pop crossover scene of the early '00s and artists like The Notwist, who injected clicks and cuts with a heavy dose of emotion. Imagine an electroclash track made for watching condensation collect on a window during a rainy day. The drums move at a steady pitter-patter, the synths hang in the air like sighs and the vocals are robotic but wistful. It's all built around a pumping bassline that would be club dynamite on any other track, but sounds like a sad walk home instead. "From My Mind" is a striking electro cut made for set enders, cathartic breaks or just a lonely bedroom listen.
