  • Those who have been following Mark Broom's Bandcamp page over the last couple months might have noticed the UK techno producer has been dropping a steady stream of classic disco and house edits, with source material ranging from Farley "Jackmaster" Funk to Kate Bush and Lolleatta Holloway. Each one of those edits are faithfully re-polished with his signature hardgroove techno treatment that accentuates all the best elements of each classic sample, with the added power of Broom's dynamic, high-energy drum programming. His latest flip puts that treatment on a stone cold classic Paul Johnson record, "I'm Alone Until You Show Me," taking previously un-sampled bits from the the original George Benson source material ("Turn Your Love Around") and reincorporating them into places where Paul had previously chopped them short. It's an energetic but respectful reworking, a well-rounded DJ right at home in both techno and house sets and, most importantly, serves as a shining tribute to one of Chicago's most prolific and beloved house music innovators.
