- Minimalist but ultra-powerful Miami club music.
- Coffintexts could not let 2022 come to a close without sneaking one last release into her career-defining year. The Miami artist's stripped-down sound—distinctly percussive, rigid but softened around the edges, undeniably tech-y but always with a touch of sensuality—all comes together neatly in her newest EP, Body. Built around staggered percussion and throbbing basslines, Body circumvents conventional four-on-the-floor beats in favor of more textured rhythms. "UP N DOWN" makes use of the quintessential reggaeton syncopated beat, while "SUCIA ANTHEM" shuffles around a dembow-inspired drum pattern. Scaling up and down a range of tempos, Coffintexts flexes her ability to these broken cadences in a number of different styles. Whether she's making a track at 100 BPM or 160, it usually just sounds like Coffintexts.
Strong basslines dominate the EP, growling menacingly in "SUCIA ANTHEM" and giving depth to the free-floating vocal samples in the title track. Instead of melody, Coffintexts focuses on getting the fundamentals right: powerful kick drums, gated claps, punchy cymbals. There's enough dynamism to keep her tracks from getting too repetitive, and her music is extremely well-balanced. These relatively simple compositions give each sound room to breathe, and you can feel every new touch: swells in volume, the breeze of filter sweeps, the minute dicing of samples. Less is usually more, and Coffintexts takes that idea to heart on Body.
