- A big year for Physical Therapy kicks off with melodic techno served two ways.
- Starting with "Drive," Physical Therapy is putting out a whopping 12 releases on his Allergy Season label this year, each primed for the club. This first offers two versions of a track centered around an arresting mallet lead, drawing a line from classic Pantha Du Prince through to minimalist composers like Midori Takada. The "Breaking Mix" is all old-school B-boy vibes, with a blissed-out piano lead and insistent bassline, while the "Driving Mix" is thudding techno that gives the bass a chemically enhanced boost. To put it in terms the New York DJ would probably agree with, the "Breaking Mix" is floaty and midtempo, primed for the Elsewhere main hall, while the "Driving Mix" is pure Bossa business, the perfect thing to reach for at a late hour on Wednesday when everybody is out past their bedtime. The way the lead melody floats out of the "Driving Mix" is gorgeous every time, and cinches that one for me, but both mixes are worthwhile.
