A cutesy, UK funky-inflected bonus track from the fun-loving UK duo.

It's easy to think Two Shell give zero fucks. Their light-hearted productions, which combine glitchy hyperpop and autotuned vocals with UK club music, belie a whimsical attitude that borders on irreverence—but the anonymous duo are a lot more intentional than they appear. Their fizzy, unpredictable tracks are meant to erode elitism in dance music, as described in last year's interview with The Face, but they also represent the ironic aesthetic of the young internet: surreal, self-deprecating and most importantly, hyper-aware.
Their latest single, a new addition to last month's lil spirits EP, underlines those values. Featuring looped samples of an automated phone voice against bouncy, bleepy beats that almost resemble UK funky, "✨mum is calling✨" feels like a product of a terminally online afterhours party. Served via a DIY music video, the lo-fi track evokes video game nostalgia and parodies the bedroom producers who flood YouTube with similarly strange samples. The beauty of this track is that it feels like an inside joke among fans, making the mysterious duo feel all the more relatable.
